S'more Adventure Race Details

The second annual S'more Adventure Race will be held on September 29, 2018 at Camp Shady Brook YMCA, near Deckers, CO!

This is one of our favorite fundraisers. With your adventurous nature and philanthropist heart, registering for this event allows more kids to attend camp at Camp Shady Brook YMCA! Adventures for everyone! Each team of 4 will race in a variety of endurance disciplines, including orienteering/navigation, cross-country running/hiking, mountain biking, paddling and other challenges! Runners can look forward to a large vendor area with interactive booths and a food truck fest. Be prepared for an amazing day!

Team Categories

  • Male, female and coed in competitive and non-competitive waves with each team consisting of 4 athletes
  • NEW to 2018: the family wave! (Shorter course, tons of fun, 2 athlete minimum per team - one adult and one child aged 6-18)

What to Bring

  • Backpack
  • Water bottle & hydration pack
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Mountain bike helmet (CPSC, ANSI, or SNELL certified)
  • Compass Bike tool kit (including bike pump) and at least one spare bike tube
  • A big ol' smile!

What is Provided

  • Canoes, paddles and Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)
  • Race maps, race passport and rules of travel

On sections of the course, there will be points where you can drop your bike outside of a transition area. You may want to bring a lock to secure your bike in these situations. A bike lock is not mandatory.

Awards

Awards will be given to the top three teams in each division.

Price

Competitive Wave (4 athletes) $75 per athlete
Non-Competitive Wave (4 athletes) $50 per athlete
Family Wave (minimum of 2 athletes) $40 per athlete

UpaDowna & Folk'N'Flannel Details


UpaDowna's mission is to provide access to outdoor adventures for all through events and programs that empower individuals, create healthier communities, and foster a respect for the environment. In order to provide free and donation based experiences in the outdoors, we need donations! Unique experiences in the outdoors can lead to healthier lifestyle practices, reduced ADHD and Autism symptoms as well as increased self-confidence and overall mental & physical health and well being! UpaDowna is not your average fundraising type - we're mixing it up with an OUTDOOR camping fundraiser complete with good music, tasty food, cold beer, epic adventures and beautiful scenery in the mountains of Colorado!

The Folk'n'Flannel is a unique festival and fundraiser for the outdoor adventure nonprofit UpaDowna!

Festival-goers are welcomed to YMCA Camp Shady Brook for numerous activities like corn hole tournaments, Yoga & Brews Classes, live music and more!

Lodging

All who attend have the option to stay in a tent, car camping, lodge or glamp!

Live Music

Various bands will play each night at “intimate” settings with amphitheater-like seating

Activities

The following activities are available all day on Saturday and until 2 p.m. on Sunday:

  • Fat Biking
  • Stand up paddle (SUP) boarding
  • SUP Yoga
  • Hiking
  • Fly fishing

In addition, there will be tournaments and competitions such as:

  • A Corn Hole Tournament (must pay to compete)
  • A “Facial Hair Frenzy” beard and mustache competition

Breakfast 7:00 - 10:00 a.m. Scrumptious pancakes
Lunch 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. TBD
Dinner 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. BBQ family-style dinner

Directions to YMCA Camp Shady Brook

 

From Colorado Springs

Approximately 70 minutes - Take highway 24 west to Woodland Park, at Woodland Park, take a right on Highway 67 North towards Deckers. Stay on Highway 67 for approximately 23 miles, at Deckers, take a hard left onto Y Camp Road (dirt road). The road dead-ends at the camp parking lot.

From Denver

Approximately 90 minutes - Take Highway 285 West to Route 126 at Pine Junction, Turn south (left) onto Highway 126/S. Pine Valley Road towards Deckers. Stay on Highway 126 for approximately 25 miles, in Deckers, take a hard right onto Y Camp Road (dirt road). The road dead-ends at the camp parking lot.
