Member Letter 2017

Dec 12, 2016

I want to personally thank you for choosing the Y! In addition to the heart-pumping workouts you know us for, the Y offers heart-filled help as a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids, adults and families. We continue to be blessed with caring members, devoted volunteers, dedicated donors and a steadfast community who supports our mission.

Thanks to your patronage and continued loyalty, we deepened our service to the community while also enhancing your experience in the following ways:

Youth Development

  • Upgraded Day Camp programming, offering parents a more consistent, quality experience
  • Presented free youth memberships to every 7th grader in School District 38 and two schools in District 11
  • Provided nearly 200 children free swim lessons as part of the Safety Around Water program
  • Served hundreds of children living with chronic illness and hundreds of children of fallen or injured military parents at Camp Shady Brook

Healthy Living

  • Improved Wi-Fi access and upgraded fitness equipment throughout our centers
  • Provided free access to our centers to 6,992 seniors participating in the Silver Sneakers program
  • Offered 60-plus cancer survivors free 12-week conditioning and strength training with our nationally certified trainers through our LIVESTRONG at the Y program

Social Responsibility

  • Gave $1,153,393 in financial assistance, opening invaluable access to those who need it
  • Served more than 40,000 active-duty service members, over 50,000 military dependents and over 87,000 military veterans and retirees through our military outreach program
  • Entered into strategic community-wide partnerships with two healthcare systems to integrate services and deliver transformational change and sustainable well-being for everyone living in the Pikes Peak Region

While these enhancements were wonderful to implement, we also faced challenges. In 2016, we experienced increases in our labor costs from a state and federal level, which led to significant restructuring of our organization. These challenges will continue to impact our organization into 2017 with the recent voter-approved Amendment 70 that raises minimum wages.

We strive hard each year to prepare a prudent budget that adds value to your membership, reinvests in our facility and programs and provides training for our staff. In order to continue providing you with the level of quality service you expect from us, our Board of Directors has implemented rate adjustments that will go into effect January 1, 2017. In addition, members who use the Family Program Package should be aware that the rate for the FPP will increase from $12/month to $15/month beginning January 1, 2017.

Click here to look at our new rates or speak to a team member at your center. This small increase in your monthly rate will help us continue to provide you with caring and professionally trained staff members, exceptional facilities, services and programs, while continuing with our commitment to provide assistance to even more local families in need.

Please contact us if you need additional information on financial assistance. Each year the Y raises money as part of its annual campaign to provide assistance so that all families have access to our centers and programs. Our team is committed to helping you reach your goals and provide the support you need along the way.

In Service,
