Parent's Place

Sports participation keeps children physically active and provides them with positive development opportunities. At the Y, we promote the development of each athlete to reach their highest potential through skill development, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Honoring the Y’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, our volunteer coaches focus on developing character as much as building athletes. That is why we do not conduct tryouts to select the best players, nor do we cut children from YMCA Youth Sports.

WHY CHOOSE YMCA SPORTS?

  • Everyone plays and everyone wins.
  • Teamwork and cooperation are keys to success.
  • We play fair and respect teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and ourselves.
  • Striving to win is an essential part of all sports, but winning is only one of many goals at the Y. Smiling, laughing and good feelings are important.

Focusing on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship and values is what sets YMCA Youth Sports apart from all other programs.

Registration Information

You can now register for the team and practice times that you want! It is first come, first serve so hurry in to your local YMCA when registration begins. Team rosters are placed in time slots for which practice space is available. We recommend registering your player using our online registration. Coaches commit to teams throughout the registration season. The number of players on a team varies by sport and, in keeping with our "everybody plays" philosophy, teams may not be over-filled. Registration fee must be paid in full to reserve a spot on a roster. Please be aware that a $10 fee will be applied in the case of a cancellation.

Team Sign-ups
The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region welcomes teams to sign up collectively. We encourage parents or coaches that have a pre-determined team to call or email the Sports Director at your local Y to establish practice times and locations.

Late Registration
While registration deadlines are established to give the Y sports department the necessary time to develop game schedules and coaches meetings, we do accept late registrations. If you have missed the registration deadline, please call to determine whether space still exists on teams. There is a $10 fee for late registrations.

Special Rates

Financial Assistance is available to those who qualify.
Ys everywhere have a mission to accept every child into Youth Sports even when they are unable to pay the full rate. Thanks to the generosity of those who contribute to our Annual Support Campaign, approximately 2 out of every 10 kids on a team are playing sports. If you are able to help us sustain and increase opportunities for children to participate in our programs, please add an extra amount to your registration fee, make a gift online or visit any front desk to complete a pledge card. Your donation stays local and will help children realize their potential.

If you are unable to pay the full cost of Y membership or sports program fees, please apply for partial assistance by visiting your local Y.

Refunds
Refunds are available only if a written cancellation is received prior to the first game of the season and is subject to a $10 service fee.

Miscellaneous
The Y provides jersey and a trophy for each child.

Combining Leagues
One or more leagues may be combined with another Y branch if we do not receive enough registrations to create at least four teams.

Frequently Asked Playerspace Questions:

WHAT IS PLAYERSPACE?
Playerspace is a sports communication portal that the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Sports program has partnered with to enhance and improve the overall communication for our sports leagues.

WHAT INFORMATION WILL I FIND ON PLAYERSPACE?
You will find all the essential information for your player's league(s).  You can find game schedules, snack lists, coach contact information, end of season party information and weather status updates and cancellations for games and practices.

HOW DO I GET ON TO PLAYERSPACE?
When you register your child for the sports league, you automatically are registered with an account on Playerspace.  There is no need to create a new account!  You will receive an e-mail with your username and password the first week of practice.  From there you can visit playerspace.com and click “sign-in” at the top of right corner.

WHAT IF I AM NOT RECEIVING THE INFORMATION AND MY EX-SPOUSE IS, BUT WE BOTH NEED THE LEAGUE INFORMATION?
This is very common and very easy to fix!  Let your coach know that you need to be invited as a “fan” of the league.  Your coach will need your e-mail and phone number and you will receive an e-mail with a link that you will need to click on to be added.  From there you are then able to see all of the necessary league information.

WHAT IF I AM NOT RECEIVING E-MAILS FROM PLAYERSPACE?
Be sure to check your junk, trash and spam folders for Playerspace.  You will need to add [email protected] to your safe sender list.  If you still are not receiving e-mails contact your Sports Director at your local YMCA.

I HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHILD AND I CAN ONLY SEE ONE OF MY CHILDREN’S TEAM INFORMATION.  HOW DO I SEE MY OTHER CHILDREN’S INFORMATION?
Make sure you are not on your child’s dashboard and you are logged in as yourself as the master account.  To tell if you are logged in as one of your children, see if it states your name’s dashboard or your child’s dashboard.  To easily login as yourself, simply visit playerspace.com and login with your credentials that were e-mailed.

WHAT IF I DID NOT RECEIVE MY LOGIN CREDENTIALS?
If you need your login credentials, just contact your coach or your Sports Director at your local YMCA to have them re-sent.

Youth Sports Pledge

Every Youth Sports game opens with coaches, officials and children reciting the following pledge to reinforce good sportsmanship and values:

I pledge to play the game the best I can…
   …to be a team player
…to respect my opponents, the rules, and officials
…and to improve myself in spirit, mind, and body.

7 Pillars of YMCA Youth Sports

Everyone Plays
The Y does not conduct tryouts to select the best players, nor do we cut kids from YMCA Youth Sports. Everyone who registers is assigned to a team. During the season everyone receives equal practice time and plays at least half of every game.

Safety First
Although children may get hurt playing sports, we do everything we can to prevent injuries. We’ve modified each sport to make it safer and more enjoyable to play. We make sure the equipment and facilities are safe and teach the sport so the skills are appropriate for children’s developmental level. We gradually develop your player’s fitness levels so they are conditioned for the sport. We constantly supervise our young players and stop any unsafe activities.

Character Development
Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility are about playing by the rules and more. It’s about you and your players showing respect for all that are involved in YMCA Youth Sports. It’s about you being a role model of sporting behavior and guiding your players to do the same. Remember, we’re more interested in developing children’s character through sports than in developing a few highly skilled players.

Positive Competition
We believe competition is a positive process when the pursuit of victory remains in the right perspective. The right perspective is when adults make decisions that put the best interests of the children before winning the contest. Learning to compete is important for children, and learning to cooperate in a competitive world is an essential lesson of life. Through YMCA Youth Sports, we want to help children learn these values and for parents to do the same.

Family Involvement
We encourage parents or guardians to be appropriately involved in your child’s participation in YMCA Youth Sports. We invite you to help as a volunteer coach, official, or timekeeper and encourage you to be at practices and games to support your child’s participation. To help you get involved appropriately, YMCA Youth Sports offers orientation programs, a code of conduct to support fair and inclusive sports practices and games, and a set of guidelines to help encourage positive skills development and increase your child’s self-image and self-confidence.

Sports for all
YMCA Youth Sports is an inclusive sport program. That means that children who differ in various characteristics are included in rather than excluded from participation. We offer sports programs for children who differ in physical abilities by matching them with children of similar abilities and modifying the sport. We offer programs to all children regardless of their race, gender, religious creed, or ability. We ask our adult leaders to encourage and appreciate the diversity of children in our society and to encourage the children and their parents to do the same.

Sport for Fun
Children love the challenge of mastering skills, playing with their friends, and competing with their peers. Sometimes when adults become involved in children’s sports they over organize and dominate the activity to the point that it destroys children’s enjoyment of the sport. If we take the fun out of sports for our children, we are in danger of the kids taking themselves out of sports. Remember the sports are for the kids; let them have fun.

Youth Clinics

The YMCA offers a variety of Youth Sports Clinics year round designed for children ages 3-6 years old to help build a foundation for sports skills development, basic fundamentals and, most importantly, fun! Contact your local Y for more information on upcoming clinics.
