Registered Dietitian
Briargate YMCA

Degrees and Certifications:

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly ADA) since 1995, MS in Nutritional Science, MA in Counseling, BS in Guidance and Counseling, Certified Water Fitness Instructor through AEA and Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Admin., and First Aid.

Areas I specialize In:

  • Nutrition Counseling and Public Speaking covering a wide variety of nutrition and diet related topics, including heart disease, diabetes, weight loss, eating disorders, sports nutrition, cancer, aging, anti-inflammatory diets, and just healthy eating in general.
  • I also have over 20 years personal experience working with diabetes and insulin pump therapy.

My Training Philosophy:

  • I believe my primary objective, as an RDN, is to educate. My goal is to help my clients and patients learn to make wise and appropriate food/diet choices for themselves. I do not believe one diet plan fits all, even though there are basic guidelines that do apply to all. If I can teach and motivate my clients and patients to eat sensibly (most of the time) and obtain and maintain health throughout their lifetime, I’ve done my job well.

Interests and Achievements:

  • Several years ago I authored the nutrition chapter in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Physical Fitness Manual. I’ve also written several short nutrition articles both for the Y and a local church’s newsletters.
  • I faithfully walk my two golden retrievers daily. I love times of laughter with my husband and daughter, as well as time with friends. I enjoy cooking delicious and nutritious meals, when I have time. I also enjoy time alone with a good book.
